My DIY Facial Routine

Anyone else getting kind of bored of this lockdown? I’m trying to keep myself busy and a great way I’ve found to pass time in the evenings is with a little at home pamper session! Which is exactly what we could all do with right now! This year I have committed to having a pamper evening every Sunday night and doing a little DIY facial. Read till the end to shop the post!

Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse

I like to start my at home facial with a double cleanse, doing a double cleanse is game changing! First, I use Lacura Pink Clay Hot Cloth cleanser and wipe it off with a muslin cloth. Then I use Simple’s Moisturising cleanser to do a second cleanse using my Olay cleansing brush to get deep into my pores.

Exfoliate

Once my skins dried (I never dry my face with a towel I always let it air dry) I apply 2 drops of AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution by The Ordinary. This went viral on Tik Tok last year and I’m not surprised. It’s a great chemical exfoliant and really helps with blemishes. I leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off.

Tone it up

Next comes a toner, my current one is also by The Ordinary and contains 7% Glycolic acid which is a mild exfoliant and helps brighten skin and improve clarity.

Mask time!

After I’ve used my toner I do a face mask, this can vary, I pick one based on how my skin is at the time, usually I‘ll do either a purifying one or a moisturising one. I have a few that I go between which I’ll link below but my favourite masks are the sheet or peel off type because they’re low effort and can just be peeled off and thrown in the bin when I’m done.

Moisturise me!

To finish off my facial I use my new favourite moisturiser Egyptian Magic skin cream, if you’ve never tried this you’re really missing out! It’s super moisturising and melts into your skin plus it’s multifunctional (I’m going to be doing a whole blog post on this soon). It’s also perfect for using with my gua sha so I finish my facial routine with a facial massage – if you want to learn more about facial massage you can read THIS blog post for all the details.

And that’s my facial routine! I’ll usually paint my nails and watch something on Netflix whilst I’ve got a face mask on, its the perfect way to spend a Sunday evening. Check out my instagram @thealicemayedit where I’ve done a reel showing this routine in action plus how I use my gua sha!
